ADHD Q&A

What is ADHD?

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that typically comes with symptoms like hyperactivity, trouble focusing, and a tendency toward impulsivity. It affects children and adults and can make it challenging to manage your everyday life.

How can I tell if I have ADHD?

ADHD must be professionally diagnosed, but there are some good indicators that are worth paying attention to. For example, you may have symptoms of inattention or hyperactivity.

Inattentive

The inattentive subtype of ADHD (formerly called ADD) is marked by difficulty in remembering or sustaining attention on tasks, being distracted easily, struggling to organize your life or environment, and frequently failing to follow through on decisions.

Hyperactive-impulsive

This subtype of ADHD may be easier for others to notice. It comes with fidgeting, restlessness, chattiness, a tendency to act without thinking, and an unintentional habit of interrupting other people when they’re talking.

Many with ADHD have a combination of these symptoms, known as combined-type ADHD. If your symptoms disrupt your life (whether at work, school, or home), have persisted for at least six months, and can’t be chalked up to another psychiatric or medical condition, your provider may diagnose you with ADHD.

How will my ADHD be treated?

The good news is that ADHD responds well to treatment, and the team at Chivic Healthcare Services tailors your care plan to meet your needs and goals. They may recommend:

Lifestyle changes

You may benefit from a more structured environment, better sleep and nutrition, and experimenting with daily routines to figure out what works best for you.
